Waltham Forest WIN Lights Candles of Hope for the New Year

Our Waltham Forest WIN group gathered on January 7th 2025 to reflect, pray and light candles of hope together for the New Year. Members shared home-cooked food, personal stories and reflections on what it means to cultivate points of light in a world darkened by conflict and division. One attendee described the event as a “warm, reflective coming together, with lights internal and external” and a  “common seam” of kindness and friendship.

As 2025 rises from the ashes of 2024 ushering in the promise of a new beginning I find myself turning to Rumi for inspiration: ‘Wherever there is a ruin, there is the hope of finding a treasure….never lose home my heart for miracles lie in the invisible.

Along with prayers, there is a role for us to not turn our heads away and, at the very least, to speak up when we know of injustice.
